This page explains the limits of what EasyGIF and its guides can promise. It adds to the Terms of Service, which are the binding rules for using the site; if the two ever disagree, the Terms win.

A one-person project

EasyGIF is designed, written, and maintained by one independent developer. There is no company, support team, or legal department behind it. That has practical consequences you should know about:

  • Bugs are fixed once they are reported and reproduced, but there is no guaranteed response time.
  • Features can change or be removed when the browser APIs they depend on change.
  • The site can be offline for maintenance or because a hosting provider has an outage.

If something breaks, email contact@easygif.app with your browser, device, and the file type you used. That is the fastest way to get it fixed.

GIF results depend on your browser and device

Every step of making a GIF runs on your own device: decoding the video or images, drawing frames on a canvas, and encoding the file. That keeps your files private, but it means the result depends on hardware and software we don't control.

  • Which files open. A video opens only if your browser can play its codec. HEVC (H.265) videos from recent iPhones play in Safari but not in every other browser. Animated WebP and PNG are split into frames by the browser's own decoder, so support differs between browsers and versions.
  • How many frames you get. On computers the GIF maker allows up to 150 frames. On phones and on devices that report 4 GB of memory or less, it allows 60 frames and a smaller maximum size, so the tab doesn't run out of memory and reload.
  • Exact frames and colors. Frames captured from a video depend on how the browser seeks within it, so two browsers can pick slightly different moments for the same timestamp. Image scaling and color handling also differ slightly, which can change the final file by a few percent.
  • Speed. Encoding a long, wide GIF takes seconds on a recent laptop and noticeably longer on an older phone.

The site is built for current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge, but no one can test every device and browser version. Always open the GIF you downloaded and check it before you publish or send it.

Guide measurements are from one test setup

The guides quote file sizes and quality scores that we measured ourselves. They are real measurements, not estimates, but they describe specific test material under specific conditions:

  • They were produced on 2026-10-29 by a script that runs the same encoder as the site (gifenc 1.0.3 with EasyGIF's Floyd–Steinberg dithering) outside the browser.
  • The test material is a short set of clips built from Pexels photos: a 24-frame panning clip, a six-photo slideshow, and a 20-frame drawn app-window recording. Each guide says which one it used.
  • Each test changes one setting at a time, so the numbers show the effect of that setting on that material.

Your own GIFs will differ. A clip with more motion, more detail, or more colors will be larger than our test clip at the same settings, and a flat, still clip will be smaller. Use the percentages in the guides to understand which setting matters most, not as a promise of the exact file size you'll get. When the encoder changes, we re-run the measurements and update the guides.

Accuracy of guides and outside information

Guides also describe other software: how to record your screen on macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android, what different apps accept, and how browsers handle formats. We check these against the vendors' own documentation and list the sources and the date we checked them at the end of each guide. Vendors change menus, limits, and behavior without notice, so a step may be out of date by the time you read it. If you find one, please tell us.

EasyGIF is free because it shows ads served by Google AdSense. We don't choose the individual ads, and showing an ad is not an endorsement of the advertiser or its product. Ads are placed in the content below the tool, not beside the drop zone, preview, or Download button. How advertising cookies work and how to opt out is described in the Privacy Policy.

Guides link to outside websites as sources or for further reading. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices. No link on EasyGIF is paid, and we don't earn commissions from any of them.

Not professional advice

The guides are practical notes about making GIFs. They are not legal advice, for example on whether you may use a particular video or image, and they are not professional advice for accessibility compliance, marketing, or publishing decisions. Whether you have the rights to the material you turn into a GIF is your responsibility, as the Terms of Service explain. For legal questions, ask a qualified professional where you live.
