About EasyGIF

EasyGIF is a free GIF maker that runs entirely in your web browser. You drop in photos, an existing GIF, or a video clip, arrange the frames, add text, crop or resize, and download an animated GIF. No account, no watermark, and no upload.

Who runs EasyGIF

EasyGIF is an independent project, designed, built, and maintained by a solo web developer. It is not part of a larger company and has no investors. You can reach the person behind the site directly at contact@easygif.app; bug reports and feature requests are read and answered personally.

Why another GIF maker?

Most online GIF makers work the same way: you upload your photos or video to a server, wait for it to process them, and download a result that often carries a watermark unless you pay. That's slow for large videos, and it means trusting someone else with files that are often personal.

Modern browsers can do all of this on their own. They can decode images and video, draw text and transform frames on a canvas, and run the GIF encoder in a background thread without freezing the page. When the work happens on your device, there is nothing to upload, no wait, no server bill per GIF, and no reason to hold back features behind a paywall.

How it works

• Images are decoded by your browser. Each one becomes a frame, drawn at the size and shape you choose.
• Animated GIFs, WEBPs, and PNGs are split into their frames by the browser's own image decoder (WebCodecs), keeping each frame's own delay. Browsers without it fall back to gifuct-js for GIFs.
• Videos play from your disk in a hidden video element, and frames are captured at the frame rate you pick.
• Text, crop, rotation, and resizing are applied as each frame is drawn on a canvas.
• Encoding uses gifenc in a Web Worker: each frame is reduced to at most 256 colors, optionally dithered, and compressed into the GIF file.

EasyGIF is free and shows ads from Google AdSense in the articles below the tool, never next to the drop zone, the preview, or the Download button. The Privacy Policy explains how advertising cookies are used and how to change your choices.
